Korean Udon… as Instant Noodles!? A Seriously Tasty Bowl of Udon in Just 4 Easy Minutes! #5

Meow meow, hello everyone! Today I’m unboxing an instant noodle cup I tried in Korea. The second I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to buy it, because I’d never seen anything like it before. It’s an instant udon noodle cup!

Is there anything these days that can’t be turned into instant noodles!? Anyway, let’s get to the unboxing first~ Inside there were these two items.

A tightly packed block of udon noodles, plus what I’m guessing is a spice packet, a soy sauce packet, and a broth packet. Once you pour everything in, it looks like this.

It actually looks pretty good~ I honestly think that if I served it in a fancy ceramic bowl with a bit of ceremony, I might not even be able to tell whether it was freshly cooked or just rehydrated. But what really matters is the taste. The first thing I noticed was that the noodles don’t clump together. The moment they hit the hot water, they separate completely. That said, the noodles aren’t as springy and chewy as freshly cooked ones.

As for the soup, it’s a lot like the broth I often had in Korea. Sometimes when you order a meal there, it comes with a bowl of this dark-brown broth that tastes a lot like bonito (katsuo) stock. But when I went looking online afterward, I couldn’t find anything quite like it. If any of you Mydons know what this is, could you help me out and explain it?

In the soup there were some semi-transparent dried vegetables that looked like onion, plus fish cake and a few other veggies. But just like with other instant noodles, there were only a few bits and they didn’t have much flavor.

To wrap up: I think this noodle cup is worth it. The noodles and the broth are both pretty special, so I’d highly recommend that any Mydons who love udon keep a cup or two stocked at home. Right now I’m honestly regretting not buying a few more (^~^;)ゞ
