Menya Musashi’s Limited Oyster Ramen? Honestly a Bit of a Letdown…
Meow meow everyone, it’s me, Mydondon! Today I’m back at our beloved Menya Musashi, and this time I’m here to try one of their limited-edition bowls. The Oyster Gyokai Shio Ramen is technically a “limited” item, but not many people seem to order it, so you don’t have to be in the very first wave of customers at opening to get a bowl.

Karaage (Fried Chicken)
We arrived at 12:20, and there were already 3–4 groups lined up out front. The staff told us the wait would be about 30 minutes, and after 24 minutes it was finally our turn. The karaage chicken wings we ordered were just okay — not bad, but nothing special either. They were pretty juicy inside, just a little on the small side portion-wise.

Oyster Gyokai Shio Ramen
And now for the star of the show, the Oyster Gyokai Shio Ramen. Honestly, I didn’t think it was all that great overall. The broth has a faint seafood (gyokai) flavor, plus the seasoning from the minced red onion, and it doesn’t taste salty at all — it’s only after you take a bite of the oyster that you get to enjoy that perfect harmony between the broth and the oyster. But… that’s the catch: you only get that with those few bites. The rest is just a monotonous salt-based broth.

I’d suggest adding a soft-boiled flavored egg, or some other toppings, to give the broth a bit more depth. Also, heads up: the oysters themselves aren’t really cooked, so be a little careful when you eat them — if you’re not into raw oysters, you probably won’t enjoy this one!
