Songs That Sound Easy on the Ears: My Playlist Picks for the First Week of January 2023
Intro
Meow meow, good evening everyone! How has your New Year been so far? Today I’m here to recommend 7 songs for my first playlist of the first week of January, songs that just sound nice and easy! For all you Mai-Mais out there traveling around after New Year’s Day, may these tunes keep your trip happy and argument-free. And if you’re stuck in traffic right now and want something to ease that bumper-to-bumper frustration, you might just love these songs!
Oh, that’s right, over the holidays I went on a crazy listening spree and discovered tons of fun bands I’d never heard before, so look forward to plenty more playlists coming up! And of course, the articles I’ve been slacking on will slowly make their comeback too, so just hang in there a little longer~~

“If All Love Songs Were the Same” by Suming
The first song is “If All Love Songs Were the Same” by Suming. Hey, did you know just how slim the odds are of meeting someone in this world who truly gets you? Someone who happens to love the same sport, gravitates toward the same kind of movies, and decides whether or not to mix their curry rice exactly the way you do. “The old days swayed back and forth, then drifted away, leaving us only to look back. We forgot we could hold hands, forgot we could be gentle, forgot we could know and stay by each other.” Maybe we get so used to each other’s presence that we forget to be tender, but they’ll always be the most important one in your life.
“It’s Not What You Think” by Mary Wu
Well, if Christmas Town didn’t help you find a partner this year (just like it didn’t for me), then maybe you also hate spotting all those freshly-coupled-up pairs on the street, hugging and cuddling everywhere and making you feel some kind of way. You just want to yell at them: “You eyesore couples, break apart right now, wider than five fingers, wider than the galaxy. Love’s own Moses, part the Red Sea. If you won’t listen, I’ll make trouble and show you that love isn’t simple.” This one is “It’s Not What You Think” by Mary Wu. Recommended for you all!
“Living in My Own World” by The Night Keepers
Okay, maybe not everyone’s holiday is as nice as ours, and there are plenty of people who don’t even get the chance to go out and have fun even once. But please, just enjoy these work-free days as best you can, okay? Rest up and recharge so you’re ready for whatever storms come next. Maybe you’re envious of someone else’s vacation, but sometimes spending time alone is the most relaxing thing of all. This song, “Living in My Own World” by The Night Keepers, is dedicated to you, to all of you quietly going unnoticed in society. “Keep the most comfortable distance, don’t let anyone push you around. Trapped in a slow-paced room beats all the fake concern. The sadness you haven’t unlocked yet, no one will blame you for it.”
“I Love You Rabbit” by Namewee
The next one is a New Year’s celebration song made by Namewee, a singer I’ve been really into lately. It seems like he puts out a festive song every single New Year, and I’m already looking forward to the next one (*・~・*). Go give this one, “I Love You Rabbit,” a listen, maybe you’ll love it too!
“Beautiful Scenery” by Power Station
Up next is “Beautiful Scenery” by Power Station. For me, Power Station was a band whose name I knew but whose songs I’d never actually heard. Today, for whatever reason, I suddenly stumbled across this song and fell in love with it out of nowhere. Maybe that’s just how good songs work, they pop up right in front of you when you least expect it. “The scenery there is beautiful, see how you take it in; the scenery there is beautiful, songs that never end, music you can’t get enough of, beer and cigarettes that never get you drunk, country music swaying nonstop.” Doesn’t it sound exactly like the kind of music you’d hear on Kenting’s main street?
“Before the Campfire Goes Out” by goose
“Cher, you said hard work never goes to waste; I’ve heard this story so many times, and if I don’t listen I’ll come to no good. You also said putting in effort will pay off for me someday, someday. I believe it, I agree, and right away I gave it everything.” This is “Before the Campfire Goes Out” by goose, a band from Singapore. The whole song is about the effort of growing up and all the bittersweet struggles along the way. It’s simple yet incredibly good, so if you haven’t heard it yet, go give it a listen!
“Unknowingly Falling for You” by Annetola
Alright~ we’ve quietly arrived at today’s final recommendation. The reason I love this song is purely because the melody is gorgeous, and yeah, I know I’ve used that excuse a bunch of times already, but I just can’t resist a good-sounding song~ This one is also from a singer I just discovered, “Unknowingly Falling for You” by Annetola. “I’ve unknowingly fallen for you; no matter how hard the rain pours outside, you’re my one and only, and without you I couldn’t breathe.” I don’t care, you absolutely have to go listen first, only then will you understand just how GOOD this song is! (the unreasonable demands of a superfan)
Thank you all for reading this far. The playlist may be late, but it’ll never be a no-show, and I hope you’ve found some songs you love too. If you still enjoy this kind of post, hit that like and give me a follow! See you in the next article. Bye-bye everyone~~
