A Spicy Man Returns! This Year Ryan Trahan Takes On an Even Bigger Challenge
Intro
This is one euro cent, and Ryan Trahan is going to use this single coin to travel across 5 countries from France back to the United States, with every cent he spends having to come from the earnings of this one cent. What makes it even more brutal is that this time he only has 7 days to pull it off! Honestly, I’ve been quietly following him for a year now, and getting to see this series come back genuinely moved me. Last year he did it to help people who were going hungry, and this time he chose to help those who don’t have access to clean water get clean water to drink.
Who Is Ryan Trahan?
If you’re a new viewer, I’m sure you have no idea who this guy is, right? So let me introduce him to everyone again! Ryan Trahan is a 25-year-old guy from Texas, USA, and in my eyes he’s always come across as a really creative YouTuber. Like that one time he asked a drive-thru employee whether they could give him a 10% discount!? (And he actually pulled it off in the end.) Or when he tried living a whole day in first person. But his most famous series is still the One Penny series. In this series, he challenges himself to reach his own set goals through this kind of trading.
One Penny Series
For example, in one of the challenges, he slowly traded a single cent all the way up to a house. Yep, I’m not exaggerating, an actual house! It might start with a pen, a plastic dinosaur, or a box of mints. And even though it was rough at first, sometimes even accidentally trading down to a lower-value item, thanks to his hard work he still ended up with a house. Sure, the house might not look super fancy or might not be perfect, but in the end he still did it, and all I, sitting here in front of my computer screen, can say is: super impressive!
What makes it even better is that his videos are not only fun but also full of positive energy. Take the “trading one cent for a house” video, for instance: he did it for a subscriber named Hannah who was starting her own business, so that her entrepreneurial journey could go a little more smoothly. And you know how it goes, a good story makes people more willing to help others. In the later videos, he started bartering cars with people, and once the numbers get that big people no longer trade as casually as they would with small change, which is exactly what made reaching the goal harder and harder. In the end, the reason people were willing to trade at all came down to the fact that Ryan was doing this mainly to help those who need help the most, which in this story means Hannah. Today we’re not actually talking about the house-trading thing, but rather the challenge of spending 7 days getting from Europe back home, right! In this challenge, there are things that are the same as the previous one and things that are different. For instance, this time there’s once again The Great Reset, which is basically a “punishment” for Ryan (because he’s just too good at coaxing people into donating): any time someone makes a single donation of $50,000, his current money gets reset to zero, back down to 1 cent. However, anything he’s already bought is unaffected. Honestly, even if he got reset during these 7 days, he’d probably be able to get right back on track immediately, because he has so many tricks up his sleeve for making money.
That said, he still selfishly added a rule for himself called INVINCIBILITY, which means that for 24 hours he can keep himself from being reset, priced at one dollar more than The Great Reset.
And of course, so far this season is once again packed with heartfelt moments and plenty of fun. I won’t spoil it for everyone here, so go ahead and enjoy it for yourselves at your own pace.
