Money Heist: How a Crew Stole 2.7 Billion Euros in 6 Days (Why You Should Watch It)

A show with a plot that isn’t tired and overdone, plus a handsome leading man and a gorgeous leading lady. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably fall for Money Heist too. Just a heads-up though, it’s on the longer side, you’ll need about 48 hours to binge the whole thing.

Intro

Meow meow, hey everyone! Today’s another Saturday, and weekends are absolutely made for being a total couch potato! Sprawling out on the sofa and watching shows all day is honestly one of life’s greatest joys! But ugh, every single time I open my Netflix I run into this super awkward problem: I have no idea what the heck to watch, aaaaaaargh. Every time I have to scroll forever before I finally find something that actually hits the spot, a show with a plot that isn’t tired and overdone, plus a handsome leading man and a gorgeous leading lady. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably fall for Money Heist too. Just a heads-up though, it’s on the longer side, you’ll need about 48 hours to binge the whole thing.

Have you ever imagined pulling off a 2.7 billion euro heist? That’s enough money to set you up for this whole life, your next life, and the one after that too. For the Professor, this isn’t some impossible dream, because he’s got a flawless plan. First, he needs his crew, so he rounds up all kinds of (criminal) talent, eight people in total, and each one has their own job: there’s the leader, the master forger, the hacker, and so on. Everyone has their part to play. The Professor has spent the better part of his life preparing this plan, and one morning the whole team finally storms into Spain’s Royal Mint and takes 67 hostages, sending shockwaves through the entire country.

But for them, the game has only just begun.

The Professor works on the outside, handling the inspector, the national police officer in charge of negotiations. The Professor knows the only thing he has to do is keep his crew inside for as long as humanly possible, because every single second before the police breach the Mint, the machines are churning out banknotes like crazy. “Time is money” is no joke here. Every time the police think they’ve found a useful lead, they walk straight into a trap he set up well in advance, stretching out the time it takes them to get inside indefinitely. As long as the Professor holds the hostages, the police won’t dare make any reckless moves. Meanwhile, the police are scrambling to uncover the Professor’s true identity, because the moment they find where he’s hiding, the whole plan falls apart.

But of course, something always goes wrong, nothing is ever perfect. From the robbers’ point of view, the troublemakers are the would-be heroes of the hostages. Arturo, the director of the Mint, is one of those key figures. He repeatedly schemes to escape the building, because he’s convinced the robbers will end up killing them all in the end and that they’re nothing but pawns. The only way out is to escape this hell, and if he can swap a fake gun in for one of the robbers’ real ones, he’ll have a bargaining chip to threaten them with. As for whether he actually pulls it off, well, I’ll let you find that out for yourself…

My Takeaway

The best thing about this show is that it never drags its feet, there’s not a single dull minute. Every time the inspector gets close to discovering the Professor’s true identity, you can’t help but break out in a cold sweat for him. On top of that, every character has their own struggles and personality, and it’s precisely those personalities that push them to make choices in their own self-interest, throwing tons of unexpected twists into the whole heist.
